KEYERA PARTNERS WITH THE WILDER INSTITUTE TO SUPPORT SPECIES RECOVERY NATIONWIDE
November 25, 2025
25 NOVEMBER 2025 (Calgary, AB) – When you walk through a prairie field, along a forest path, or beside a riverbank, the sounds of wildlife—from chirps and calls to rustling leaves—tell the story of a healthy ecosystem. Across Canada, however, these natural soundscapes are increasingly at risk as species decline, habitats disappear, and ecosystems face unprecedented pressures.
To help respond to these urgent conservation challenges, the Wilder Institute is proud to welcome Keyera as the first official funder of their Wilder Canada Action Plan. Their support will strengthen multiple priority initiatives within the plan, including the Species Prioritization Process. Through this program, our team analyzes national species-at-risk recovery plans, assesses population viability, and determines where collaborative action can yield the strongest conservation outcomes. This ensures the Wilder Canada Action Plan targets species with the greatest potential for recovery and drives evidence-based, inclusive, and measurable conservation efforts across Canada.
In addition to this support, Keyera will also act as a matching partner for Giving Tuesday on December 2, 2025. Along with an anonymous family, Keyera will match all donations up to $80,000, helping to amplify contributions that support multi-species conservation initiatives across Canada.
“Keyera’s generous commitment demonstrates the power of collaboration,” said Steven Ross, Chief Development & External Relations Officer at the Wilder Institute. “Funding from partners like Keyara allows us to take meaningful steps to safeguard Canada’s wildlife, strengthen local conservation capacity, and empower communities to care for the species and ecosystems we all share.”
The Wilder Canada Action Plan is a bold, 10-year strategy designed to advance species recovery across Canada. Guided by the Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework and the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Global Species Action Plan, the Wilder Canada Action Plan provides the largest coordinated approach to species recovery in Canadian history by using targeted conservation translocations. It combines science-based conservation, inclusive community engagement, and collaborative action to deliver effective, measurable, and lasting outcomes for at-risk animals and plants.
“Canada’s wildlife faces enormous challenges, and we are proud to support Wilder Institute’s work through the Wilder Canada Action Plan,” said Christy Elliott, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, External Affairs & General Counsel at Keyera. “This contribution reflects our commitment to the environment, the communities we live and operate in, and the species that call Canada home.”
With support from partners like Keyera, the Wilder Institute is working to put the Wilder Canada Action Plan into action—delivering on-the-ground conservation solutions aimed at safeguarding the natural symphony of the country’s landscapes for generations to come.
